Your Designer Hair Color

Every day I get asked about color. So, I thought I’d try explaining the method to my madness.  It is my “passion” and therefore a little bit of madness. Color is all I think about some days!  If you where one of my color clients and I saw you on the street, instead of your name, the first thing that would pop into my head, is your color formula.

Many things go into the process of designing hair color just for you!

First of all, I look at your own unique coloring.  Virgin Hair color, Skin color and texture, Eye color, colored contacts, even your lip color.  How much make-up do you wear, or not. Are you “high maintenance” or “low maintenance?” Meaning how often do you visit a salon to upkeep your look and color.

Then I take into consideration your personal style.  Are you casual or more dressy most days.  Flashy, Classic, Conservative, Exotic… How old are you? How old do you look.  A good color can take 10 years off. How many days a week do you style or change your hair. Are you using  products to achieve your look.  Do you have a work persona? What is your personal persona? Your day play persona? Your night life persona? Your dating persona? etc…

Then I go into the current season and how that translates to your personal coloring. Spring I tend to start lighting your hair keeping it on the cooler side.  Summer months your color would be its lightest and on the warmer side. In Fall I deepening your tresses with warm autumn shades. Winter you will be your darkest and back to your coolest pallet.

Let’s not forget what Styles and colors fashion designers dictate every season and the color pallet that the world wears for the next 3 months. You can walk down any street, look in the windows and you will see what that color is.

Achieving all these outstanding color spectrums I have to attribute to my 58 Permanent shades of “Socolor” by “Matrix“.  Great for lifting and lightening your hair. My 58 hughes of “Shades EQ” by “Redken” is my semi-permanent Color that bills itself as “the color that thinks its a conditioner.” It leaves your hair with amazing shine and much healthier looking than when we started. Mixing and matching a total of 116 color shades I achieve endless shades of blonds, reds, brunets and blacks desired.  I feel just like my mother who was an artist with her painters pallet.

So in short, you will never get bored with at least 4 different color formulas I would love to design just for you throughout the year.  Each and every one of them designed to your own personal coloring, personal style and Fashion colors for the season. My job and my passion is to accent all your best features making what mother nature gave you even better. Outstanding color is what I strive to achieve every single time :)

Jessica Russo - Hair Designer - Color Specialist - San Francisco - Red Union Hair SalonJessica began her career in 2004, working as an assistant at a bustling Bumble and Bumble salon in downtown San Jose and eventually moving on to work 3 years at a beautiful Aveda concept salon taking classes every few weeks in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. Within that time she moved quickly up the food chain, blossoming from an assistant to a senior stylist position by the end of year 3-specializing in creative cuts and coloring techniques, color correction, bridal and special event do’s.

She participated as both a stylist and a model in many avant-garde productions and fashion shows throughout the years (and continues to do so to this day). She has worked on an extensive clientele with a wide range of hair type and texture.

Creative longing and the desire to expand her knowledge led her to Southern California where she worked closely with extremely talented Vidal Sassoon-trained stylists. There, she delved into new experience with training from Davines, freelanced as a hair and makeup artist and even styled hair for the 2007 Academy Awards (Exciting!)

Upon returning to the Bay Area, she accepted a position as a Regional Educator of sales for Phyto Haircare (right in the vein of the botanical and natural products she had always loved.)

Over the last year and a half she traveled several times to New York to train under world renowned colorists such as Beth Minardi, as well as some of France’s top colorists and stylists. She has taken and taught classes for Subtil- one of France’s most coveted hair color lines. She has traveled all the Pacific Northwest, teaching stylists not only how to use Phyto’s incredible botanical formulas, but also how to create the ultimate relaxing experience for their client. She demonstrated and conducted deep treatments with the use of Phyto’s masques and essential oils to provide ultimate health to hair and scalp (“I am a healthy hair junkie!”- Jessica Russo) She has presented as a speaker at trend shows across the country from Honolulu, Hawaii to Portland, Oregon, all the while, continuing to maintain a clientele (many of them the very first she worked on as a junior stylist at Aveda!)

Her commitment to continued education has covered Bumble and Bumble, Aveda, Redken, Goldwell, Davines, Subtil and, of course, Phyto!

She prides herself on her ability to tune in to clients needs and create the look that not only meets their desires but suits their features. Her down-to-earth nature allows clients to open up and truly express themselves.

“I love this industry! I love creating! I love learning and teaching! I absolutely love my clients! I couldn’t be happier to be making more time to dedicate to my craft and I’m thrilled to join your team!” – Jessica Russo
